We're Binki Free!!!!
As most of you know Emmet has been addicted to his binki since birth. Emery wasn't quite interested in hers until she got old enough to copy Emmet. My mom has been staying with me while I've been recovering from adominal surgery. I'm getting better each day. I'm not allowed to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds for 6 weeks. (Emery is 34 pounds) So yesterday, I was frusterated, sick and tired of being a push over, realizing that if I didn't stand up to at least my kids nothing would change. So in a moment without thinking I pulled the binkis out of their mouths and threw them in the trash. I have had suggestions of having the balloons float to the binki fairy, but I think the dramatics of the trashcan worked great!! Emery and Emmet sobbed and sobbed and eventually stopped. Emmet put on a brave face and fell asleep fine, but a little before five he woke up and moaned for his binki until I was willing to get up for the day. In the mean time my mom was upstairs suffering the rath of the two year old. She had a difficult time falling asleep and then tossed and turned all night. She was up also around five moaning for her binki. My mom and I are sleep deprived, but determined to stop the bad habit. I am so glad I got upset enough to make this change now. I do not see how I could've done it by myself. I would've eventually given in. This is the first "major" change I've made with the kids since Sam's death. It's making me realize I can do this. There have been moments where being a single mom has been more challenging than I anticipated, but we're making baby steps and being a binki free home is a major step!! Wish us luck tonight!!!

Way to go Kira! Good for you for being a strong mom. I will keep my fingers crossed for you...I am sure after the worst is over, you'll be so happy (and so will they) (isn't that a dumb statement, of course as soon as the worst is over you'll be happy duh! I could have deleted it, but I wanted to you see how I can ramble sometimes!) I hope recovery is going ok...it's amazing how many things your little stomach muscles help you do during the day. Did you watch American Idol last night? I'm kinda tired of the beatles :) Hugs to you!
That's awesome Kira. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with Leland and her thumbsucking. Somehow I don't think the thumb in the trash will work out too well for me. :) Everyone says that the thumbsucking habit usually gets broken by being teased at school. I really hope she's not in kindergarden sucking her thumb!
Ya, for Emmet and Emery! And you!
getting rid of the binky is the worst! i've had to do it twice now and i'm grateful that izzy doesn't care for hers. i think it's on the same level as potty training--and the same concept: you have to show them you mean business and it's not coming back. with rylee i cut a hole in the nipple and it was "broken". she stopped napping and started waking up at five. ugh. with avery, she legitimately misplaced it somewhere in the house and i couldn't find it. i had to lay down with her till she fell asleep for her nap and then again at night. each time i stayed with her for a shorter time, and by some miracle, she still naps! congrats though! it's an empowering day the binky dies.
That is exactly how Sidney lost her passy. I got angry and without even thinking, took it away. It was dramatic for a few days, but she got over it. Ellie on the otherhand has the same problem as Leland. Thumbs just don't work the same...
Ugh I can relate! I haven't had the determination to take Spencer's paci away. . . I haven't been willing to be sleep deprived. I am so happy for you! I need to follow in your footsteps. . . love ya
Good job Kira, that was a HUGE accomplishment on you and your children. Proud of you.
hey, will you email me, I need your email address :) we want to invite you to Tati's bday on saturday. dreadog7@gmail.com
Way to go! Let us know how it is going! We will need some pointers for when we try and seperate Sadie and her binky. . . I still have time though, I think
Good for you! That has been the hardest thing to get rid of at our house. I am glad that Brianna likes her paci right now, but I dread the day it has to go already!
Way to go Kira! I thought I'd be clever and tell Anna that "binks are for babies and you are a big girl now." She very willingly collected her binks, put them in a baggie and handed them over to Raquel & Elena. All was well until bedtime when she realized what had happened...she flipped out! Up until recently, she continued to make really mean faces and yell, "that lady takeded my binks!" every time she saw them.
