help....

So, I'm attempting to potty train Emery.  She's two and a half and quite ready and capable, yet I need some suggestions on what's worked for you.  Emmet was a breeze, he loved chocolate and that was his bribe.  On the other hand Emmet and I tried everything to get Emery to "peep" on the pink potty to no avail.  It was so cute, every time Emery said potty, Emmet and I would jump up together.  It was quite the family effort.  After two hours she finally went into the pantry, shut the door and peed in there!  She's definitely has a mind of her own.  I thought girls should be easy, so any ideas, brilliant or quite silly, I'll take them.

I love Emery! Now.....when you say she "peeped" in the pantry....was the potty in there? I was also excited that she is saying "yes" now. Chris showed me the video he took. I am a little sad however that we won't be hearing "aaow" anymore!

it takes a good three days. just don't give it. that's what they're waiting for. when they realize you finally mean business and the diapers are all gone she'll give in. try to act like you don't care--i know, it's nearly impossible. gum worked as a bribe for avery. good luck!

Stickers worked for Leland. I started giving her a little sticker for just sitting to try then she would get a big sticker for actually going. Once she started going more we put a chart on the wall for her to try to fill with stickers then she would get a treat when her chart was full.

It was harder for me to be disciplined to remind her to go. I started setting the kitchen timer so that I would take her to try every fifteen minutes and if she actually went I would wait longer till the next try.

You need to figure out what motivates her.

I also chceked out DVDs from the library and would let her watch a short show while sitting on the potty. I realized that she needed to go but was too impatient to sit long enough to go.

Her favorite was "Elmo's Potty Time"

Ha ha that is so cute that Emmett gets so excited with her! Peeped, that is the funniest word! What does she love? I helped with my nephew and I made a sticker chart and when he did so many he got a CARS toy. He loved it!

I wish I had some genius ideas for you...Grandma is the one that really potty trained Audri. Brayden peeped for M&M's. We did give him one for just sitting and two for actually going. He also had a sticker chart that he just liked to put stickers on and he got to choose a fun outing, which was going to visit grandma and grandpa. I remember I also got Audri pull-ups cause I didn't really trust her...but I put her underwear UNDER the pullup so if she did wet, she still felt it and it didn't just get soaked up by the pull up. Good luck!

Kira, There is currently no one in Brooklyn's Kindergarten class in a pullup. Eventually she will get the hang of it. They all do. Enjoy the "peeps" in the pantry. They pass too quickly. Possibly try grounding her from the bathroom? This trick taught me to play the piano:)

Plus...I love the daiper toosh!
Good Luck!

Hey Kira, I've attempted a couple times w/ Tati..tried stickers, treats, you name it..she just wasn't ready..even one time in the middle of the night she asked to go pee pee on the potty and did! but other times, she just doesn't care to..I've also heard that when you get training pants w/ their favorite characters, like any of the princesses..saying don't pee on Cinderella or whatever..I've even tried that..didn't work for us, but I've heard it's worked for others.. I guess they need to be at stage when they can be reasoned with..I'm not going to push it until she's 3 I guess! hope things work out :)

I second the character underwear. I said, "Dora will be sad if you pee on her" and she loves Dora so that seems to help. Plus she would get a treat anytime she tried at first and then when she went. (Of course then she went just a little bit every half hour to get a treat. =) Good Luck.

kira,
i was just looking at chris and jenny's blog and happenened to look at yours to see how u were doing. i just wanted to thankyou for the quote by josepf f. smith about our loved ones passing. tomarrow marks the year since my dad was killed in an airplane accident. i cant tell you the comfort those words have brought to me.i shared it with my mom, and we are going to read it to my siblings at his gravesite tomarrow. i always liked to think my dad can still see me, but never "really" knew for sure...i admire your strength and courage and strive to be that for my mother tomarrow. my prayers are with you!

Sorry no advice from me... It took a good year to get Caden potty trained. I like the wait until it's summer and let them run around naked method. I don't look forward to potty training Ella - especially with her constipation issues. Please let me know if something works for you!
